Mini Rebuild

Step 2 - Buying a car

After educating myself a little about the various years and types of Mini's I decided on a Mk1, the first style offered. I found this 1960 shell with boxes of parts and a couple engines. It is unfortunate that someone had previously altered the bodyshell - grafting on large fender flares, connecting side sills and a strange oil cooler mount on the front valence. I'll have to undo all that and return the car to its original appearance. The good seemed to outweigh the bad though as the shell appeared to be nearly rust-free and solid.

I returned a few days later with a 17' U-Haul truck, 2 furniture dollies, and an unwitting friend. With only a single ramp we had to use the dollies to get the car up into the truck. This proved surprisingly easy. It was all the boxes and boxes of heavy parts that were difficult. A big thanks to Rich for all his help.

I know it looks like I'm questioning my sanity again but I just had something in my eye.

Thank goodness the car is small or I wouldn't have had room for all of these parts.
