Step 17 - Wheels & Tires

Sunday, October 5, 2008:

Not too much accomplished since my last installment. Still waiting on the arrival of a large number of parts and anxiously awaiting the return of the shell from the rollcage fabricators. In the meantime, there's lots of little things to be done...

Like finishing the work that the manufacturer of this wheel should have done. Why one wheel's bolt holes were fractionally too small is beyond me. I had to be extremely careful to drill them out on-center and I'm really not well-equipped to do that. I made the best of what I had and followed the old 'measure 8 times, cut once' adage. Thankfully they all turned out fine.

Ten inch wheels aren't common in the US so I was hesitant to take them to just any shop to get mounted. A member of our local Mini club recommended Five Points Tire in Redwood City so I dropped by on Saturday.

They did the work quickly and their attention to detail was excellent. I haven't been to a tire shop yet that taped over the wheel weights as a little added insurance. Nice.

And just for grins, here's the RR swing arm with the coilover and wheel mounted.
